At so many times in life, we have been presented with issues of life that seemed as if the whole world has turned against us. These times we get to worry and ask questions as to why things are not working the way we expected them to work. These problems stare at us always. Be it in our families, places of work, in the places of worship and so many other places. When confronted in one way or the other. At times we have accidents and complain, we lose our loved ones, we lose our jobs and so many other cases. The students read and don’t comprehend. So many troubles day by day. Inability to meet our responsibilities at home, like paying our wards’ school fees, providing their daily needs. These are some of the few challenges an average man faces. What of the businessmen who seem to be doing very well, are they also challenged? Yes! Every man has a challenge or another.
We take a look at a biblical example (Lk 18:1-8)…And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
From the message above, the judge feared not God, neither regarded man, he had no regards for man, he doesn’t care. When the widow came to him, at first, he never cared or showed any concern but when she persisted, (continuous faith) the judge said to himself, …though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. The judge did not attend to her because he wanted to. He did because of her worries, because of her troubles, because of her faith. When faced with troubles or challenged what do you do? The bible recorded that the widow troubled the judge. Maybe she didn’t go to him trice or on weekly bases, but perhaps for consecutive one month, or even two or three. She may have gone more, that the judge felt disturbed and worried that if he doesn’t help her, she may wear him out.
Now, in own different ways we may have been challenged in one way or the other as mentioned before or even in more delicate ways and we seem to give up on prayers. Have you thought about this woman who steadily worried this judge? How many times have you prayed about your present situation? How many days have you fasted? Have you thought it wise to pray persistently concerning it? Remember, Jesus said… that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Are you faint already? Rise and pray. Disturb him. He said again… Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Keep praying and never relent. God is faithful to His words. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Num 23:19). Trust in Him and pray persistently and at the appointed time, he will surely answer. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1st Thes 5:17-18)
May the Lord grant us the grace to pray persistently and not relent. Remain blessed.
