Have you been born again, but now you cannot tell if you are? Do you feel you have lost the labors of so many years? Have you tried to amend what was broken but still cannot? Or maybe, you have tried every possible means to reinstate yourself in the status and commandments of God, but all to no avail.
If you have experienced these things, then it means you are already on the way to repentance and truly accept the gospel and forsake the worldly ways. These three steps according to Rev. 2:4-5 will help you get back to where you started. The scripture says in Rev 2:4-5
…You have lost your first love. Realize from where you have fallen. Repent, and do what you used to do before.
There is an adage which says, he who does not know where the raining started beating him, will not know where it stopped”. This is to say, you cannot recover what was loss except you realize that it’s missing. Now let us answer three questions from the verses above to help us return to true repentance.
- WHO WAS YOUR FIRST LOVE?
A practical answer to this question will help to answer the subsequent ones. If you have truly loved someone and unfortunately, you ended up with another person, the memories of that first person you loved will never depart from you whenever the person you ended up with offends you. True or false? This is a true definition of First Love and it is said to be the true love. Have you ever loved God? Have you ever loved going to church? Recall how you loved the experiences you had with God initially. Is that true love? If Jesus is/was your first love, then don’t worry He still loves you. It is He who loves us and has washed away our sins with His own blood (Rev 1:5). Forsake the foreign lovers and go back to Him. If you have realized this, then ask yourself the next question.
- FROM WHERE HAVE I FALLEN/WHERE DID I START FALLING?
Now, recall in what ways you have gone wrong and be true to yourself. What are those little sins you allowed space to gradually creep in? …You had began your race well, who then hindered you on the way? Why did you stop obeying the truth? … A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.(Gal 5:7,9). Remember those ‘little lies’, the omissions and the nonchalant attitudes. The “it does not matter that matters a lot“. When you have searched yourself truly and found the areas where you started falling from, then you arrive to the third and last question
- HOW DO I REPENT?
To so many fallen Christians, this point seems the bottle neck. They do not know how to go about this question. It is easier to answer this question if you have truly answered question two. To repent, you need to realize the things you used to do when you got born again newly. Then you were conscious of rapture, begin by bringing back the consciousness of rapture. You never ceased to say the truth, you can start all over again and start saying the truth. You prayed at midnight for grace to remain steadfast, start asking for the same grace again. You studied your bible and meditated day and night. Start doing it again and gradually you can see yourself reinstated.
